Fairpoint Convention - A Malaika Concert
7.30pm (doors open 7pm)
@Gloucester Cathedral, College Green, Gloucester, GL1 2LX

Did you miss out on Cropredy or went there and need another dose of classic Fairport music? Then look no further, as on the evening of the evening of 25th October in the magnificent Gloucester Cathedral the wonderful Fairport Convention, who are for many a household name, will be performing not only to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Malaika but also their own 50th anniversary. This follows on from two Malaika concerts in 2016 when at the same venue Show of Hands and Vonda Shepard came to perform.

'Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.' Nelson Mandela.
Neither Malaika nor its founder Noella Coursaris Musunka are household names, nor is the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) an African country the size of Europe a country that many know other than an answer in quizzes. Noella and her team, almost all are unpaid volunteers, are doing their best to change this and bring attention to a country where with the right guidance has the natural resources to feed and power an entire continent, but sadly still lacks access to basic health care, education and clean water.
The history of Fairport is well documented. Credited with originating British folk-rock, Fairport first took to the stage in 1967’s summer of love. Throughout the intervening five decades (and numerous changes of line-up) the band’s passion for live performance has never wavered.
The groundbreaking album ‘Liege & Lief’ is regarded as 'The Most Influential Folk Album of All Time’. Marking its fiftieth year, Fairport has released a brand new CD titled 50:50@50. At this series of autumn shows, the band will play a selection of tracks from the album as well as long-established favourites from their extensive repertoire. They will also be performing with the Malaika Choir, made up of members of the Gloucester based Ecclesiastical and Sine Nominee Youth Choirs. This event takes place on a raised stage.

Tickets available from the cathedral box office, in person at the cathedral shop, or online HERE.
